Press Release Body = Shemekia talked about her mentor Ruth Brown, the legendary blues singer who passed away in 2006. Ruth Brown was an extraordinary woman both on and off stage and had always been very generous to Shemekia and helped and encouraged her when she first stared to sing. ART+ plays the duet they sang together, 'You Know Your Man Is Lying If He Moves His Lips' from Shemekia's album Wicked.
In this interview, Shemekia also talked about how she developed her band and why they don't need to rehearse. ART+ asked Shemekia about how she developed her singing style and her stage presence. In this program ART+ will also play some of the songs Shemekia said she liked and will be singing in her tour this summer which will include singing at the Mondavi Art Center in Davis, California.
